The first thing to do is hit the door button. The emergency release cord is there to make sure that doesn t happen. You will hear a loud click when the trolley attaches back to the carriage. This prevents the carriage from reconnecting to the opener rail trolley allowing full manual operation of the door.

You need to check the release handle and make sure that it is on the track. Garage door openers are handy appliances until something goes wrong then they can actually make it harder to open the door.
