One of the more difficult problems for do it yourselfers to diagnose is a worn cable pulley on an extension spring door.
Garage door moving unevenly down the track.
If it was opening too quickly move it to the next lower hole.
Only loosen one track at a time and do not remove the lag bolts completely.
Use a screwdriver to loosen the screws that are in the tracks to secure it to the garage door frame.
Who knew you and your garage door could have so much in common.
This may have been what was stopping the door from opening.
It is possible that the vertical track down the side has gone out of alignment and shifted due to a slightly loose lag screw.
Pulling the door up and down is a garage door opener.
This will cause the unit to stick.
If the opener is adjusted properly the garage door will move up and down in an even motion.
Push the door back to adjust the door and get the center aligned again.
This option is a variation of standard radius track and is used in situations where the ceiling in a garage is significantly taller than in a typical home.
If it has remove it and try opening the door again.
Adjust the springs on both sides of the door the same way.
Check that nothing has fallen into the garage door track.
If the door was closing too quickly move the spring to the next higher hole on the bracket.
You may have to loosen more than one of the clips.
If there is a little gap at the bottom of your garage door on one side or your garage door has been jerking back and forth it s probably because there s uneven tension from the springs.
Once the spring is free of tension remove from its track hanger.
A garage door is considered bound when it s difficult or impossible to move up and down.
The following is a guide of how to adjust the tracks to unbind it.
Loosening the screws on the track.
Without proper adjustment however the unit may run along the tracks unevenly.
These are what gives your garage door the tension needed to open.
Loosen the lag bolts that hold the track to the jamb and slide the bracket until the distance is correct.
While many problems that keep the door from opening are caused by broken springs a lot of other parts could be keeping your door from functioning properly.
If there is a problem with either the rollers or the track this cannot happen correctly and may result in a crooked or jammed garage door.
If they ve broken then that will be why the door won t open.
Adjusting the position of the track.
There are two types of springs.
If the rollers have jumped the track entirely the garage door will likely not work at all.
By pushing the door back into position you should have made the vertical track straighten.
Retest the door balance as you did in step 1.
Take a look at your garage door springs.
When you are adjusting garage door track you want the door down.
