One of the more difficult problems for do it yourselfers to diagnose is a worn cable pulley on an extension spring door.

The reasons your garage door has a gap in it could be.

If your garage door isn t closing all the way but also doesn t reverse you might need to adjust something called the limit switch.
There is one on each side of the door.
Adjust the springs on both sides of the door the same way.
In an opposite situation you may find that your garage door isn t opening all the way when you push the button on the opener so that you can drive in.
One or more of these reasons is likely responsible for your garage door closing partially but not all the way.
Something blocking the door.
If one of them is off or blinking it means the invisible beam that tells the opener that the way is.
Garage door opener malfunction or door has shifted.
Bottom of the door is up on one side.
Side mounted extension springs are installed above the horizontal roller tracks on both sides of the door.
They both have lights and both lights should be on.
Depending on the brand.
If there s something blocking the door from closing all the way a full close will be impossible.
First you need to see what has caused this to happen.
If one side of the door is not in line with the other the door won t run smoothly in its tracks and when closed one side of the door won t close completely leaving an open gap.
There are of course many other problems that can keep your garage door from functioning properly.
First check the sensor lights.
Garage door sensors may not be aligned correctly 3.
The extension springs are evenly matched and installed to keep the garage door properly aligned so that it runs smoothly throughout the entire length of the track and closes evenly.
Garage floor may have cracked or shifted 2.
If it was opening too quickly move it to the next lower hole.
Clutter or obstructions that block the sensor are the first problems to look for if your door won t close or in extreme cases open at all.
Retest the door balance as you did in step 1.
Though this problem should be obvious it shouldn t be overlooked.
