With maple trees and oaks you will need to clean your rain gutter more often than pine trees. In the early spring as soon as the snow and ice melts.

But fall isn t the only time you want to clean your gutters. In the fall it is important to start cleaning the gutters when the leaves begin to fall. If you wait they will get soggy with rain and freeze up in clumps when the winter comes. And in early fall any leaves or other debris that fell into your gutters during the hot summer months should be thoroughly dry and will therefore be easy to remove from the gutter system.

Begin cleaning near a downspout. This will help keep your hands dry while. Wear safety glasses to keep bits of dried leaves and other debris out of your eyes.
